You Were Not Born to Suffer How to Overcome Fear Insecurity and Depression and Love Yourself Back to Happiness Confidence and Peace (Audible Audio Edition) Blake Bauer Random House Audio Books
While this book is not going to be to everybody's taste (then again, which book ever is?) it does contain a great deal of useful perspective if one is truly ready to hear it. The gist of the book is that we are all somewhat prisoners of our own making, trapped in a web of toxic emotion and a world of rampant materialism. Bauer posits that we have all we really need to be happy inside us already, and that a change in the way that we see ourselves and our place in the world can help to bring about very real changes in the rest of our lives.Much of what he says makes perfect sense, and I found myself nodding and re-reading several of the passages over several times. It's one of those "it feels as if the author is speaking directly to me" sort of books. There are, however, concepts and sections that are going to be difficult for some people to swallow, and a number of them I found very hard to believe; ideas about the way in which the universe actually works, the flow of energy, and certain metaphysical theories that range from the mystical to the downright fantastical. I read through those sections, took them with a huge grain of salt, and moved on to firmer ground. There were plenty of take-home points that stuck with me long after I had finished the book. Each chapter ends with self-assessment questions and exercises, plus a number of positive affirmations for those who are so inclined. I enjoyed Mr. Bauer's book a great deal, and it will almost certainly be read a second and third time somewhere down the road.

You Were Not Born to Suffer How to Overcome Fear Insecurity and Depression and Love Yourself Back to Happiness Confidence and Peace (Audible Audio Edition) Blake Bauer Random House Audio Books Reviews
Books like these often preach to the converted. In other words, someone who has sought this out will usually be primed and ready to swallow it whole. Maybe they took a seminar with the author, and liked it enough to get his book and DVD. Or maybe they’re looking for affirmations. Permission. Reassurance that they are good and loveable people. This book is chock full of that stuff, as are so many books of this ilk. But it is also brimming with unmitigated nonsense. Some of the conclusions and opinions the author puts forward are simply silly. So if you want a rehash of the old (SNL) Stuart-Smalley-type affirmations (“I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me."), then go for it. I sincerely hope you find it helpful and healing. The honest fact is that I didn’t. It has to be said.
wonderful read! get this.

I'm only halfway through this book but I LOVE IT. It's one of the most important books I've ever read. It's helping me to change my life.
Great book. Very straight forward and good writing. Very helpful for getting to the root of the problem.
